I don't believe you. But I already invited you, so I guess I can't take it back now, [Jaime teases, unable to keep the smile playing at the corners of his mouth off of his face. He's unhappy about what Killua had to tell him, unhappy that he and Gon have to go through so much, but if he can lighten his load for even a moment, that'll just have to be enough.]
Do you have any aller -- [Killua was probably fed poison as an infant.] -- you don't have any allergies, do you.
There'll be dessert, I promise. Did you... have any other Christmas foods you'd actually want to include, though?
[Does Killua have any fond memories at all of his family? He knows that he's getting away, but that doesn't mean that Killua wants to let go of all of his traditions. Just the ones that have to do with systematically killing people.]
[He's going to ignore that malt shop reminder (SHUT UP JAIME) in favor of thinking on this. The words sound foreign, used by him, and he taps his chin a few times while considering.]
What do people usually have? Anything's fine by me. [No traditions in the line of food outside of 'poisoning' and 'who needs to cook when you have money'. He actually thinks back fondly to the time he visited Mito with Gon, and all that food was amazing-- but it all blends together with more recent events and he can't recall what it was.]
I'll eat just about anything. [And love it, too. So!!]
Oh, is this -- this is your first regular Christmas, then? It's usually, like, a turkey and mashed potatoes, and...
[A lot of other foods he doesn't know how to make.]
Well, there's no way I can make half of it without my parents around. My mom usually leads the tamale brigade, and it's this whole thing. It probably only gets done 'cause all the aunts and cousins chip in, so we'll be skipping a lot of it.
Yeah, work always spiked during the holidays, and even if it hadn't... Well, you know. My family's different.
[Than most people's, he guesses. But more important! He hasn't stopped smiling for a while now, and that's pretty good. Whether or not they get all the food-- he doesn't care about that.]
Don't worry about it so much. It's for sure going to be better than the instant meals I've been having lately.

[How right you are Jaime. But he says this with a playful smile, jabbing a thumb at himself.]
I like sweets the best, though. [But he already knew that, didn't he.]

[He's never forgetting that one, kiddo.]
